Fourier, Joseph

French mathematician and physicist born in Burgundy, France (1768-1830). Fourier developed several mathematical equations still in use today to describe the transfer of heat, analyze harmonics, and provide a theoretical basis for the greenhouse effect. Fourier also served as a scientific advisor to Napoleon Bonaparte.
